Here it is the final result of all that work. This has been quite the learning experience. At times it seemed as though I made every possible mistake there was to be made. I think the next one will go a bit smoother through both dyeing and sewing. I certainly have never dyed as large an amount of fabric before using Itajime so I now know how to approach that in a better manner (different base fabric, more color differentation between lining and outer fabric, only one dyebath). Sewing? Well being familiar with the pattern now will help me to place the pattern better and I will pay more attention to certain aspects of the construction as I sew the next in the series…Earth (green, brown, and metallics)
I’ve chosen my recipes and the method I want to try for the Itajime already. To incorporate metallics I think I will use some details to it with metallic thread.
Time for another trip to the fabric store!
great finish for this hot fabric! i'm very impressed with the final piece. inspires me to work on something larger. what was the reason you would choose a different base fabric? what fabric would it be? i see what you mean by a higher contrast fabric for the lining though. perhaps something darker- like dark embers with only a hint of hint of the fire on the outside.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the project like you have. hope you add it to the shibori pool.
Hi glennis! Thanks for dropping by!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it. I knew going into the project that it would be a bumpy ride... so many things I hadn't tried before, because of that I chose to work on inexpensive unbleached cotton muslin for the larger of the two pieces of fabric.I won't choose that fabric again for Itajime,it proved to be somewhat water resistant and very reluctant to absorb the dyes. Because of that I was unable to get the contrast between lining and outer fabrics...my origional plan was to have the outside very dark reds with the glowing bright fabric inside, oh well live and learn :)
Hi
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you have a video of how you done this or if you could tell me the step of how you done this. I am a fashion student and think this is amazing!
Thanks Hannah.

Hi Hannah
ReplyDeleteI don't have any vids of the process but this post goes over the basics I used to get the pattern on the fabrics
